Fighting for Devlin by Jessica Lemmon

Fighting for Devlin is Ms. Lemmon's newest series highlighting Lost Boys.  Devlin is a "bad" boy who because of a set of circumstances falls for "good" girl Rena Lewis.  Rena has played it safe and been a good girl for the last 4 years, ever since the tragic accident that took her love.  Can Rena show Devlin the light and can Devlin show Rena that playing it safe is not really living?
This book has lost of twists and turns and makes you believe again in love conquers all!

In the Company of Wolves by Paige Tyler

I ask you what is better than a damsel in distress, where a gorgeous police officer comes to the rescue?  When said damsel and police officer are both wolves!  Just had the pleasure of reading Ms. Tyler's latest addition to her SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) series, In the Company of Wolves.  Swat team member Eric Becker doesn't know what comes over him when he helps a beautiful wolf escape arrest.  He is a police officer for goodness sakes!  But he just can't help himself.  Jayna Winston doesn't want to rob the factory warehouse but their Alpha has put them in a difficult situation with guys you can't say no to and live.  This last job Jayna was sure there was no way out until the cute SWAT guy saves her hide.  I love the turn this tale takes with Eric going undercover in order to help Jayna and her crew.  Does love conquer all? Will all of Jayna's pack mates come out of this alive? Pick up this book to find out, it is a fast exhilarating read perfect for a lazy afternoon.  Enjoy!

Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne

Ms. Layne has done it again! Irresistibly Yours is an Oxford Novel in which Cole Sharpe, mister sassy, handsome, sports writer finally meets his match! Spunky, somewhat tom boyish Penelope Pope moves to New York from Chicago for a fresh start.  Having lost her dream job to a fellow writer who she thought was her friend and had hoped for something more, Penelope really, really, needs this job at Oxford.  Cole has been writing as a freelance writer with Oxford for a while now and never thought he would have competition from anyone when Oxford decides to expand their sports section and hire a Sports Editor. Meeting at the ball park without knowing they are competing for the same job sets the stage.  I love the "sweetness" of this novel.   I get that Penelope is a beautiful woman but would have loved it if the Stiletto gals had given her a "Cinderella" beauty makeover moment.  Can't wait for Lincoln's story and if you don't know who I mean, then what are you waiting for?  Time to catch up on previous stories from this series (Stiletto/Oxford), I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Bearing It All by Vonnie Davis

Run don't walk to purchase this book! [Or should I say click :)] Just had the pleasure of reading the latest "bear shifting adventure" by Vonnie Davis, and I can tell you that this is my favourite to date.  I absolutely loved the intrigue and suspense along with the comedic relief provided by Effie.  If you haven't read any other books in this series you can certainly read this as a stand alone but having said that, reading the previous novels you understand completely who everyone is and how they fit in.  Especially Effie a grandmotherly witch who is hilarious!  Ronan Matheson needs to get away so he retreats to his isolated cottage in the woods.  French intelligence agent, Anisa Brosseau is on the run from the CIA as well as her own government where she has been framed for crimes she did not commit.  Guess where her drone lands, yep right on top of Rowan while he is in his bear form.  Let the games begin.  I kept putting this book down as I didn't want it to end and was trying to prolong the story.  Loved, Loved, Loved it!  5 STARS!

Shadows Striker by Dianne Duvall

Well, I know what I'll be doing next week, reading books 1 thru 5 of Ms. Duvall's Shadow Series.  I just had the pleasure of reading Shadows Striker, Book No. 6.  I have not read any previous books in this series except for a short novella.  I absolutely loved it!   Heather Lane is an army brat whose Father is a General in the United States army.  She has the talent or curse for being able to read minds.  She uses her talents for government agencies but passes her talent off as reading facial expressions of people.  Only her Father knows of her true talent.  For the past year Heather has been having the same dream every night.  She is in a small clearing by her house in the country when vampires suddenly attack.  Vampires, can you imagine they're not even real!  Until one night her dream comes true and they are more real then she could have ever imagined.  Good thing that the hunky looking vampire, known as Ethan is real too and saves Heather.  Although this book is number six of the series, I had no trouble following along, but I'm sure it would be more enjoyable read in order.  4 stars all the way!

Under the Covers by Claire Boston

I just had the pleasure of reading Claire Boston's latest novel, "Under the Covers".   Elle moves to Texas with her five year old son, Toby to escape an abusive relationship.  Vowing to never let a man control her life again she opens up a Cafe/Book store in Houston, Texas.  What she finds is more than she expected.  Relative strangers help Elle from a disastrous opening and one in particular stirs her interest even though she has sworn off men.  Now Ms. Boston is from Australia so I am not sure if it was intentional or not, but the man who peaks Elle's attention is named George Jones.  Yes, just like the famous country star.  This book has heart and there were enough twists and turn to have me finish it in one day.  The only thing that would have made it better in my humble opinion would have been some steaming love scenes.   Spoiler Alert, the first time George and Elle are romantic I wasn't even sure anything happened between them beyond a kiss till it was referenced later in the book.   Great beach read!

Courting Innocence by Kimberly Dean

Fans of "50 Shades of Grey" will enjoy the latest novel by Kimberly Dean called "Courting Innocence".  Erin has led a privileged life, but the one thing she has always wanted has always been denied to her.  Well that is about to change! After a failed engagement she decides to change her life.  Enter Luxxor a matchmaking service (or is it?) where she meets lots of sexy men who do absolutely nothing for Erin.  When Luxxor provides Erin's dream date, Colton King her brother's best friend, Erin hopes dreams really can come true.  Colton King has fantasized about Erin, but he owes her family everything and he promised when he was younger to stay clear of her.  This story has many twists and turns to keep the reader engaged and hoping love conquers all.   A great summer read and I would give it 4 stars!  Enjoy

Once and Again by Elisabeth Barrett

It feels like Christmas in July!

I just had the pleasure of reading the latest contemporary romance novel by Elisabeth Barrett.  "Once and Again" is the first in a new series set in Eastbridge, Connecticut.  This book is Cinderella and Prince Charming's story but only in reverse!

Carolyn Rivington grew up wealthy, Jacob "Jake" Gaffney, not so much.  Fifteen years have passed and now Carolyn is living hand to mouth forced to get a job at her former Country Club, the Briarwood. Jake has just returned to his hometown, a very wealthy real estate developer and his latest acquisition is Briarwood.  With the way things ended between them so long ago will Jake fire her on site?  Does he still feel the attraction between them? This novel has so many twists and turns that I couldn't put it down!  I love the friendships Carolyn forms with Jane and Grace and can only hope that their stories will be told sometime in the near future.  Maybe involving Jake's friends, Matt and Press?  Or better yet, Joe, Jake's brother?  Can't wait for the next instalment.

Do yourself a favour and pick up this novel to savour on a hot summer's day, I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Wicked Charms by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton

Just finished "Wicked Charms" the latest book in this series featuring Lizzy and Diesel.
Lizzy discovers that she has a special talent for locating ancient relics as well as baking awesome cupcakes.  Diesel, well we aren't sure what he is exactly, an angel who looks like a surfer dude.  Lizzy's trip to a pirate museum leads to the discovery of a mummified bootlegger who went by the name "Peg Leg".  Now Peg Leg had a big secret involving a treasure map, a coin that was the key and enemies a plenty. That is where this adventure begins.  Add to the mix, a billionaire who wants to release the devil inside him with the help of the "Stone of Avarice" which the missing treasure is supposed to contain and this adventure will keep you reading all night long!   Love the witty banter between the characters that Ms. Evanovich and Ms. Sutton bring to this story.  I give it 4 stars.

My Highland Bride by Maeve Greyson

As with My Highlander Lover the first in the series, (see my February post) this book deals with Kenna Sinclair's story who is not ready to leave all the conveniences of the 21st century but has to no less.  Enter Colum Garrison who gets one look at Kenna and knows his life is no longer his own.  Kidnapping, mysterious strangers, and deadly situations,  Ms. Greyson certainly keeps the suspense high in this novel and sets up her next novel in this continuing series and I for one cannot wait for it!  Great summertime read!

Wolf Trouble by Paige Tyler

Loved Wolf Trouble by Paige Tyler, the second book in the SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) series adventure which gives a fresh twist on the werewolves genre.  For one thing women can kick ass too!  Senior Corporal Xander Riggs doesn't think he will ever find love let alone a life mate.  I mean how could he?  What woman would want him?  Between his job at SWAT and being an ALPHA male, there just isn't a chance.   Enter Officer Khaki Blake who doesn't know what is happening to her.  Her life has suddenly gone to hell.  Her psychotic ex-boyfriend has alienated all her friends on the police force were she works, to the point where she is nearly killed while responding to a call without backup thanks to said ex-boyfriend! And then the cherry on top is that strange things are happening to her physically! I loved this book so much I just had to go back and read the first in the series called Hungry Like the Wolf.  Great read and I give it 4 STARS *****

Treasured by Thursday by Catherine Bybee

Two words, Catherine Bybee! I LOVE everything she writes.
Treasured by Thursday is her last novel in the "weekday series" (but I hope she still comes back with some holiday additions).
Gabriella Masini has had a rough go of it.  If you read Ms. Bybee's last novel then you have already met Gabi.  Gabriella is trying to put her life back together and has moved to California to work for Alliance.  A family situation at Alliance arises and Gabi is forced to take Samantha's place and either approve a new client, Hunter Blackwell a billionaire, or turn him down.  Things just don't chive for Hunter and Gabi refuses to take him on as a client, but Hunter doesn't loose when he wants something! Hunter has Gabi investigated and blackmails her into marrying him for 18 months to settle his own family secrets.  But Hunter and Gabi's chemistry is so hot they can't help but start to care for each other.  Can they overcome a drug lord and Hunter's identical twin to stay together? Love it seems is never easy.  This book is a very fitting ending to the weekday series and fans won't be disappointed!

The CEO Buys In

I don't know about you but I can't wait for this Victoria Day long weekend, and what better way to enjoy it then by getting a big glass of wine, a sunny spot on the deck and a hot romance.  Well I can't help you with the first two but I have the book for you to read!  The CEO Buys In, by Nancy Herkness is Part I of a three part series.  Nathan Trainor is a self made billionaire who isn't too lucky in love.  Women tend to want him more for his money than anything else and being nice on the eyes doesn't hurt either!

Enter Chloe Russell, a temp who is a real go getter.  She is brilliant in her own right but is working temp jobs in order to secure enough money for her elderly Grandmother (who she lives with) for when the time comes that 24 hour care is needed.  Sure money is something Chloe needs but only if she works for it.  Chloe will not take advantage of anyone.  Now that doesn't mean she won't negotiate to get what she is worth mind you.

A flu epidemic leaves Trainor Electronics in a bad way.  Chloe is thrust from switchboard operator right into the CEO's office working for Nathan Trainor who he himself is not immune to the flu bug going around.  Watch as Chloe's character becomes Cinderella thanks to Nathan.  You would think that with all of Nathan's money and influence he would be the one to give Chloe everything, but it is Chloe that gives Nathan everything, including his family back.

I love the twists and turns this story takes and can't wait for Part II and III.

Myth and Magic

Myth and Magic by Mae Clair, Ok I'll admit it I thought this book was a paranormal romance.  Wouldn't you with a title like that?   Regardless I loved this book! Veronica Kent and Caith Breckwood were childhood friends.  Caith's family was wealthy and when Caith was a teenager he was kidnapped for ransom.  Caith's friend, died trying to save him.  Caith moves on shunning his family, childhood friends and becomes a successful Private Investigator.  Now twelve years later someone is trying to shut down one of his family's businesses, called Stone Willow Lodge run by none other than Veronica.  Can the two of them put their past behind them to solve this mystery? Who is behind the bizarre like hauntings and what do they hope to gain?  This book is well worth the time reading, I couldn't but it down!  I give it 5 stars.  If you love this book please check out Mae Clair's website she does have a paranormal time travel romance section too and it is as equally enjoyable and well written.

p.s. I just want to say as I have in the past, that I love it when the covers are not of people.  Too often the pictures don't even resemble the hero or heroine (i.e. incorrect colour of hair) and personally if I don't like the cover I won't even read what it is about.  Authors and Publishers do yourselves a favour and use imagery more than models.  Well, that is my two cents on the subject!

Witches be Burned

Welcome to Nexi Jones' life!  Her entire family has been killed by a vampire and her life as she knew it was not who she really is or thought she was.   Not only does Nexi find out that she was adopted but she possess strong white magic!    Thus the basis for this new novel by Stacey Kennedy, where we follow Nexi as she trys to learn how to control her magic and what exactly she can do with it.  Along the way to guide her is her new love, Elite Guardian, Kyden.  I have not read the previous novels in this series but quite enjoyed this adventure as a stand alone.   At first it was a little confusing as to who was who, but I soon had the players straight in my head.  I must admit I did like it when Nexi shows us what power she has!  Why should the bad guys always have the stronger power? Great read to curl up with and forget day to day life.

My Highland Lover

If you have read my previous blogs then you know I have a penchant for Highland stories and time travel.  Anything supernatural really and I just discovered a new favourite author!
Her name is Maeve Greyson and her latest is "My Highland Lover".
Trulie Sinclair lives in rural Kentucky with her Gran and sisters.  She is a time traveller from the past whose Gran brought her to America some 15 years ago to obtain my much needed medical care that only our century could provide so that Trulie and her siblings could live.  Now Gran has decided it is time for her and Trulie to time travel once again to 13th century Scotland where it all began.  Leaving her sisters behind in Kentucky, Trulie and Gran make the leap back in time.  There awaits murder, secrets and a handsome Scotsman by the name of Gray MacKenna.  I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns this novel took and encourage you to pick up a copy of this book so that you may too!  I can hardly wait for Trulie's sister, Kenna's story!

A Highlander's Passion

Full disclosure!  I love Scotland (with a name like Mackay pronounced Macki what did you expect?) and I love stories with a supernatural element.  So I absolutely love Vonnie Davis' new novel, A Highlander's Passion.  Bryce Matheson is a bear shifting Highlander and he finds out his childhood friend, Kenzie Denune, is a witch!   And that is just the beginning, if you have read the previous novels in this series it does enhance the storyline but it certainly can be read on it's own.  I especially loved Bryce's sweet bairn, Colleen who is a breath of fresh air and had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion.  This story grabs you at the get go and you can't help but root for Bryce and Kenzie to get together.  Did I mention that Kenzie's Dad is trying to kill her because he has sold his soul to the devil?  Believe me when I say this story has a lot going for it.  Suspense, romance and lots of hilarity.  Do yourself a favour and pick up this masterly weaved story, you won't be disappointed!

Seduced by Sunday by Catherine Bybee

Run, don't walk to your nearest bookstore!  Seduced by Sunday, hell I was enthralled within an hour of starting to read Book 6 of Catherine Bybee's latest novel involving the highjinks of Alliance's Meg Rosenthal.  This book has everything from the get go!  Romance, conflict, intrigue.  I couldn't put it down.  This time the story revolves around Meg's quest to find the perfect island retreat for their clients to honeymoon.  And she just might have found it in the  paparazzi free Caribbean Island  run by Valentino Masini an Italian immigrant.  This is one of those books that you purposely take your time to read as you don't want the adventure to end.  Five Stars all the way!  Can't wait for Book 7!

Happy New Year!

Christmas Blues have you down? Need some "me" time?  What better way than with these two new fantastic novels!

The first is a contemporary novel, "The Trouble with Love" by Lauren Layne.
This is continuing story of the talented writers of Stiletto Magazine and this time it's Emma Sinclair's story.  This southern belle has come a long way since her fiancĂ© left her at the alter or did he?   Living in New York City and doing a job she loves, her life is almost perfect.  Emma doesn't need a man to complete her life but the fates don't agree.  Alex Cassidy her ex, not only lives in New York City too but he will be her boss for a 3 month stint.  Ninety days to prove that she is so over him!   Learn how Emma and Alex have a somewhat different opinion on how their engagement ended and can time heal all wounds?

The second novel is "Vampires Never Cry Wolf" by Sara Humphreys.
Sadie Pemberton, a vampire who runs a successful night club encounters Killian Bane the Prince of Werewolfs and the sparks really do fly!  But wait, a vampire and werewolf can't co-exist let alone fall in love, or can they?   Things are not always black and white and prejudice exists even in the supernatural world.

I give both 4 stars and hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
Wishing you and your family a Healthy, Happy New Year!
