Better Homes and Hauntings

What a find!  Just read Better Homes and Hauntings, by Molly Harper.  I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense and super natural element especially since I read it around Halloween!  Nina Linden needs this job to survive.  Her ex-business partner is out to destroy her.  Deacon Whitney the billionaire computer wiz puts together an eclectic crew to rebuild his family's historical home, which happens to be haunted.  The one stipulation of the job is that they remain on the island living together until it is completed.  Can they get the job completed, and not only restore the Whitney mansion  to it's former glory but lay the ghosts to rest as well?  Will love blossom between the couples on the island?  Can they trust to have each other's back and admit to believing in the strange super natural happenings on the island?  This is a roller coaster ride and you will hate to have the story end.  I give it 4 stars!

A Very English Affair!

Just had the pleasure of reading Erica Ridley's, "The Viscount's Christmas Temptation and as the title suggests the two main characters have quite the time!  Lady Amelia Pembroke is a born organizer, someone who knows what is needed before the person who needs it does.  Lord Benedict Sheffield's Family 75th Annual Christmas Party is about to be cancelled as a lighting storm destroyed his venue.  Lady Amelia to the rescue, she needs this party to happen as she has decided to find a husband and anyone who is anyone will be attending this party.  What happens next is the comedic interaction between Lord Sheffield and Lady Pembroke.  Enjoy as they both find what they weren't looking for - true love!

Sex in the City meets Green Acres

Ok, I know I'm showing my age, a lot of you must remember Sex in the City but I bet fewer will be familiar with the 60's television show, Green Acres where a successful lawyer moves to the country with his 5th Avenue wife to work a farm.  Reading Summer at Castle Stone by Lynn Marie Hulsman reminded me of the two shows.  At first I was bored and a little disappointed in the main character, Shayla Sheridan.  You see she comes from money and status and wanted to make it as a writer.  She had I thought at the beginning a "poor little me attitude" and I thought she needed a little more get on with it!  But I promise you once you get past the first few chapters and she heads to Ireland to write a cook book that a cute famous chef doesn't want written you won't be able to put it down.  I loved how Ms. Hulsman captured the charm of Ireland and it's people.  The quirky inhabitants of Castle Stone will welcome the reader and give them a real glimpse how a successful hotel runs.  Twists and turns and not knowing whether Shayla and Chef O'Grady can find true love with each other will keep you turning the page, and theirs is NOT the only love story!  ;)

I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas

Just read the e-novella, I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas by Molly Harper to get in the pre, pre, pre Christmas spirit.  I don't know about you but Christmas seems to come earlier and earlier each year.  Maybe it's because we Canadians have Thanksgiving in October!  Anyway back to the story, which involves Gigi Scanlon who joins her recently turned vampire sister and her vampire brother-in-law for anything but a normal Christmas celebration.  Add to the mix a long term boyfriend who Gigi wishes was more "friend" than "boyfriend" and you have the  premise.  Thought this short story was cute and I am looking forward to the whole story being told in 2015 with a complete novel.
I give it 3 1/2 stars.

Happily Ever After Is Not Easy!

Catherine Bybee is one of my favourite authors for a reason, she knows how to weave a story and grab the reader's attention from the first page.  I fell in love with the feisty romance novelist, Dakota Laurens and her unlikely match, Dr. Walt Eddy.  Two polar opposites who despite their own emotional baggage come together somehow.  And we the readers are the lucky ones as we get to witness how this comes to be.  If you haven't read Ms. Bybee's novels before then I highly recommend this story.  It gives you romance, conflict, and a happy ending!  If you are familiar with Catherine Bybee's work then you know you are in for a treat, sit back grab a cup of tea and enjoy.

In LOVE with Levet!

I just had the pleasure of reading Alexandra Ivy's soon to be released, "A Very Levet Christmas" and if you have ever read any of her "Guardians of Eternity" novels you know exactly whom I'm talking about.    Levet is an irreverent gargoyle who is 3 1/2 feet tall with an ego 6 feet tall.  I LOVE Levet and belly laugh out loud every time he gets one of our famous sayings backwards.  This short novel does not disappoint.  This time Levet helps a Christmas Angel and in the process Damon and Gia find love but not without a struggle of course!  Do yourself a favour and before the Christmas rush is upon us, pick up this novel, brew a cup of tea and be ready to be entertained!

Bite Me, I'm Yours!

Yep you guessed it another paranormal novel and not a cute sarcastic, "Bite Me".  Stacy McKitrick's latest novel involves a girl in need of a LOT of help.  Not only is her ex-husband who is abusive trying to get Sarah back, but a serial rapist has her pegged as her next victim.  Speaking of victims, enter one handsome bar owner, John who just happens to be a vampire.  Not an old vampire but a fairly newly turned one of about 30 years.  As John is trying to come to terms with his new life, he rescues Sarah several times.  Is John the hero or is it because of him that Sarah is in constant danger?  And why can't he read Sarah's thoughts?  This is a fast enjoyable read for a lazy summer day.

A Highlander's Obsession

I just had the privilege of reading Vonnie Davis' newest novel "A Highlander's Obsession" and let me tell you it doesn't disappoint!  FIVE STARS all the way.  The very first page had me laughing out loud which is something I never do reading a book.  The main characters are Paisley Munro who can communicate with animals {which helps in her job as a veterinary assistant} and Creighton Matheson a Scottish laird.  Paisley accompanies her Gran to Scotland to attend her Uncle's funeral.   Lots of twists and turns in this adventure.  I love that it is a "complete" story and yet you still want to find out what else happens in books 2 and 3 which I hope is soon to come.  I hate it when you reach the last page only to find out you have no idea what happens with the main characters until the next book!    If you love paranormal romance, with a dash of mystery then I urge you to read this book, I know you won't be disappointed.

Scotland and Time Travel - Need I Say More?

1. Hunky, Scottish Knight - Check
2. Spunky modern day woman - Check
3. Manipulative Fae - Check
4. Time Travel - Check
With all my checks in place how could this novel disappoint?  Barbara Longley's "The Highlanders Bargain" weaves a convincing tale of time travel from 15th century Scotland to present day.  Robley of clan MacKintosh literally falls for Erin Durie from the twenty-first century.  But wait, is Erin related to the Fae that sent Robley to her time? Watch as these two learn to trust each other and fall in love in the process.  Loved the back and forth between "time zones" and how modern day medicine finds it way to Scotland of old.  Grab a comfy chair and enjoy!

Taken by Tuesday

I am thrilled that to say that Catherine Bybee can write modern day romance as well as she does paranormal romance.  I recently had the pleasure of reading "Taken by Tuesday" and was taken on a roller coaster ride of excitement.  It was one of those times when you can't wait to finish the book and yet don't want it to end!  Judy Gardner is a graduate student looking for work in L.A.  Her brother a big time movie star, lets her crash at his swanky place while there.  Enter one cute, smitten, sexy body guard and sparks fly.  Can't wait to read the other days of the week!  J

New Author Find!

Well the longest day of the year is fast approaching - June 21st and it can't come soon enough!
Grab a long cool drink, a lounge chair and grab all of Lauren Layne's novels to read all day in the sun!  After reading "Only with You" I immediately picked up her other novels.
Love this author and her Stiletto Series (After the Kiss, Love the One You're With and Just One Night). Her characters have lots of snappy comebacks!  The women are strong independent go getter's.  I would love to be part of their group!  The story line is strong and you can't put down the book to find out all it all ends.  Can't wait to find out what happens to Emma and Alex in the Stiletto Series.
One footnote: try reading the books in order you will enjoy them so much more!

I Love me a Scottish Highlander!

Just read Anita Clenney's time travelling, "Heart of a Highland Warrior" which is her 3rd book in this exciting series.  Fair warning: With this series you need to read book 1 "Embrace the Highland Warrior" and the novella "Angus - A Highland Warrior Brief".  There are plenty of characters and without the back story of the first two novels it is too confusing to keep up with this latest installment!  But having said that I thoroughly enjoyed this time travel, fast action packed romance.  Can't wait for books 4 and 5!  Great way to start your beach reading especially if gorgeous time travelling, Scot warriors are your thing.  The woman kick ass in this series as well!

p.s. There is also "Jamie: Shadow of a Highland Warrior" novella which will enhance your knowledge as well but not necessary to read the latest.

With Spring comes new beginnings.....

Finally, Spring has arrived and with it I have found a new author to enjoy.   Her name is Jessica Lemmon and I just had the pleasure of reading her 3rd installment of her Millionaire series called, "The Millionaire Affair".   Love has a way of sneaking up on you and your heart really does know sometimes before your brain when it is the real deal.
Follow as Kimber Reynolds and Landon Downey find out first hand that love can hit you when you least expect it.  Kimber gets a chance to re-connect with her teenage crush, Landon and the sparks fly.  Landon can't believe what a beautiful sweet woman 16 year old Kimber has turned into.  Both think that this "thing" between them is just a fling.  Boy are they wrong!  Watch the sparks fly and see if this couple can find their happy ever after.

Rags to Riches?

Well Spring has finally arrived and with it I have found a new author to read!  Her name is Jessica Lemmon and I just had the pleasure of reading her 3rd novel in a series called "The Millionaire Affair".   A sweet "relationship challenged" Kimber Reynolds, gets to get up close and personal with her teenage crush, one Landon Downey.  The story is a roller coaster ride of emotions where sometimes your heart knows before you brain what is best for you.  Can't wait to read Ms. Lemmon's 1st and 2nd installments of this series!  I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Spice Up Your Spring with Searching for Perferct

I just had the pleasure of reading Jennifer Probst's latest book, Searching for Perfect available April 29, 2014.  I absolutely LOVED this book!  It has everything, spice, funny dialogue, and hot romance.  I adore the main character, Kennedy Ashe.  She is a modern day woman with secret insecurities who tries to "give away" her potential soul mate, Nate Dunkle (a honest to goodness rocket science) through her matchmaking agency Kinnections.  The sign of a great story is that you want to re-read it time and again to revisit the characters, of which I can guarantee I will be doing. Great job Jennifer, can't wait for the next Kinnections story.
p.s. Please hurry!
