The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic

I just had the pleasure of reading the advance copyof "The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic" by Emily Croy Barker and it reminded me a lot of the Deborah Harkness novel "Shadow of Night". The main character, Nora Fischer stumbles through a portal into another world where nothing is as it seems and magic is everywhere.  Through a series of events she allies with the reclusive magician Aruendiel who teaches her magic to survive in this harsh enviroment.  Romantic sparks ignite between teacher and student.  Overall I enjoyed this rather lengthy novel and will definitely pick up the sequel to see what happens next.
